YoungGunsMMA Interview:

Kaimana McCreadie

YoungGunsMMA:
Please introduce yourself (Name, Age, and Hometown, anything you'd like to include).
Kaimana:
My name is Kaimana Hipolito McCreadie I just turned 7, I come from Irvine California via Hawaii/Guam.

Kaimana & Dad YoungGunsMMA: At what age did you start training? What did you start training in (Aikido, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing Etc...)
Kaimana: I started training at the age of 4 with my dad in boxing. My dad then put me in Tae Kwon Do. I trained TKD at Master Lee’s Talium. TaeKwondo which other then my dads training in boxing gave me a base in kicking. TKD was very exciting for me. I started sparing at the age of 5. I won my first gold medal at that age. From there I sparred twice a week against older boys. During this time my dad took me to No limits MMA in Irvine Ca. There he enrolled me in Muay Thai. This helped my TKD. I won every TKD tournament I entered.

YoungGunsMMA:
As of right now, what are you training in (Aikido, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing Etc...)?
Kaimana:
For the mean time I have stopped training in TKD. Not quit just taking a break. I have too much on my plate at a young age so my dad said one art had to go for now. There were not enough days for me to do it all. I have been watching Jiu-jitsu since I could watch T.V. and that’s what I wanted to do. However nobody would teach me, I was too young. No Limits only trains 7 yr olds. I wanted to take Jiu-Jitsu so bad; I worked at home with my dad. We watched videos, BJ PENN. My dad orders every UFC fight. I soak it up like a sponge. I was training Muay Thai at No Limits and wanted to get in the Jiu-jitsu class so bad, one day I said I was 7 and I got to train, I trained for 1 month, did really good in till they found out I was still 6. Ooops had to stop. Rules are Rules I respect that. I turned 7 on October 9, 2007 it was the best day of my life. I not only received gifts the biggest gift I got was I can train Jiu-Jitsu. Wrestling my dad was not fun!!! Now I can show what I know against people my size. Well not quite they are all bigger then me.

YoungGunsMMA:
Who do you train under and what gym?
Kaimana: Bao Quach-Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai-Main trainer NOW Colin Oyama Head Coach Team Oyama- Muay Thai- trains me on SAT. Carlos Quilon- Muay Thai- he trained me since I was 5. Juliano Prado- Lotus Club Head Instructor Jiu-Jitsu. Brian McCreadie (my dad) -boxing-jiu-jitsu-TKD-Judo-and Bruce Lee videos (Gorillas gym), No Limits MMA in Irvine CA.

1st PlaceYoungGunsMMA: So tell us what your training is like (give us an example of what your day looks like)?
Kaimana:
Don’t think I am crazy but my training is what my dad says (Hawaiian style - ALL Nuts). Since the age of 4 I have been non stop training, my dad built a gym for himself out back. Weights, punching bags, and treadmills everything you find in a gym you need. I would go out there and hit the bag, wrestle my pillow(all day wrestle my pillow) I would wake up shadow box on my own, get ready for school, come home from school, and train, go to TKD. Come home and train some more. My dad and mom would yell at me, enough training what’s wrong with you, you train all day. It was getting upsetting for them because that’s all I liked to do. I do like to dress up as a super hero. I did that everyday. A different one each day, But the Hulk was and still is my favorite he can beat anyone. There were days were I went to Muay Thai- then I rush over to TKD and do TKD sparring. I did this on Wednesday’s and Fridays for a year and half. From age 5 to 61/2. Schedule looks like this now, Mondays, No Gi- Boxing at Home with Dad, Tuesdays Gi-and Tennis oh yea I play Tennis Private Lessons, Wed- No Gi- Boxing at home with dad.TKD sparring, Thursday Gi-Boxing at home with dad, Friday-No-Gi TKD sparring, Sat Muay Thai No Gi, Sun Muay Thai No Gi. TKD SPARRING: I just stopped my dads says I don't get paid for all this training you don't need it. So TKD is on hold right now I don't mind. It's a good break. Some days my dad does not take me to train cause he says it’s to much But this is my schedule there were times that I cried, when he never took me to train that’s how much I like it. But dad knows what's best and he is just taking care of me.

YoungGunsMMA: Out of your training days, what is the best thing you like the most about it?
Kaimana:
I like to compete so when I was sparring in TKD, I like the kicking and punching and hanging out with the kids. Jiu-Jitsu oh boy that’s were I can pretend I am BJ PENN.

YoungGunsMMA:
What is the hardest thing you need to do when training?
Kaimana: The hardest thing and my dads is telling me to be honest is learning to lose, I don’t like to lose. I really don’t’ like to lose. Even when I do Jiu-Jitsu with my mom, I try and beat her, I get mad when I can’t. My dad says it’s not about the winning that makes you- it’s’ learning from your lost that makes you a Champion. He says if you never lose you will not have the hunger to get better. He says that for everything.

YoungGunsMMA:
I've watched almost all of Kaimanas videos posted on youtube.com, does your dad take all of that videos (If he does....thank you for sharing).
Kaimana:
Dad and mom take my videos, but he always gets mad at mom cause she does it wrong it’s funny!! She will come home and dad’s home with Koa waiting for the camera all excited to watch. Then all we see is the ground or half a video, it's funny cause dad likes to watch us on film, he gets mad but in a funny way!

YoungGunsMMA:
Kaimana, is there days that you feel like not training at all (The reason I ask is so kids can see what other kids feel too)? I guess you could call those bad days...
Kaimana:
I am sorry but I never not want to train, I may not want to go to a gym, but I train at home. I just like it.

YoungGunsMMA:
I know you compete allot, Please share your accomplishments (tournaments and so on).
Kaimana:
I have won Gold in all these Tournaments. California cup TKD Championship, YIC TKD Championship, CA Open International Championship, Red Scorpion TKD Championship, Ca Championship.

Kaimana YoungGunsMMA: What has been your favorite accomplishment and why?
Kaimana: My favorite accomplishment oh boy! Probably winning my first Gold medal in TKD. However When I was 5 it was my second time sparring. I took to sparring real fast first day I look like a boxer with a good kick. The Master at my School always used me as there demonstration person. So they put me with this boy who must have been 100lbs he was big!! Jacob was his name. I will never forget that. I was 40lbs He looks like a Giant. I was scared, but never showed it. We bowed the master said “Kaimana can you do this I shook my head yes” I came punching he came out with only a right kick Right kick right kick. I was the aggressor, but that’s my style, his kicks were so hard that even today he is the only person that has hurt me. That was 2 yrs ago and I still remember that. From that day I told my self I would never let anyone kick me like that and they have not. I remember getting in the car with my dad, he looked at me and said 'you alright and I 'said I felt like throwing up, when he kick me. My dad said you don’t have to do sparring class, I told my dad, no way are we stopping. I want to spar him again tomorrow. I can beat him. I was 5 he was 9.

YoungGunsMMA: If you could just hang out for one day with your favorite fighter, who would that be and why?
Kaimana:
If I could hang out with my favorite fighter for a day, it would be BJ PENN. (Not because he’s Hawaiian because he has crazy skills that only he was born with (my dad says BJ himself can’t teach someone to be BJ. He can teach what he knows but BJ PENN is like Tiger Woods, there will never be another. I like to talk a lot so I may drive him Nuts.

YoungGunsMMA:
Name some of your goals and plans for your future.
Kaimana:
My goals for the future are school, college, I want to be the best in my class, and my dad wants me to be a doctor, so I can keep him living long. I want to study Gorillas and Sharks. I also want to win the U.S open in Tennis and be a world Champion in either MMA or BOXING. I don’t mention Tennis Much because this is MMA, but I like it a lot.(BTW: my mom likes the tennis better, she says the ball does not hurt as much) she acts like she doesn’t like me in the MMA sport but she is the loudest and my TKD tournaments she even gets crazy in the stands. My dad teases her and tells her stay home.

YoungGunsMMA:
If you could give advice to kids and teens wanting to do what you do, what would it be?
Kaimana:
I would tell any kid who wanted to something to just do it; it does not have to be MMA. It could be anything you want. You will never know until you try.

YoungGunsMMA:
Twinkies or Veggies for Kaimana?
Kaimana:
Eating is a touchy subject in our house. I don’t eat much. I am very picking eater. It drives my parents crazy (veggies).

KaimanaYoungGunsMMA: Right before a tournament, what's inside your head (again, asking so other kids can find out how others feel)?
Kaimana: Before tournaments I am the same I don’t get nervous my dad always ask me how I feel, you ready, you nervous, I think he is more worked up then me.( One tournament that I was in, the drive was about an hour from were we live. My dad was in my corner, so we had to sign in at 0730 my match was not till 1pm. He did not want to wake me up early and for me to wait all that time. He drove early in the morning signed me in and came back to get us then we went back. Lucky I won!!

YoungGunsMMA:
Kaimana, I've seen your younger brother punching the bag.........How old is he and what's his name? Do you help train him? Will you make sure he becomes a Young gun also?
Kaimana:
Oh yea I like talking about my brother his name is Makoa Brandon McCreadie Remember that he will be Champion one day. This kid is my project I train him I really do. I do with him what my dad does with me. All the trainers at No Limits they hold mitts for Koa. He hits the bag rolls around. He can Muay Thai Kick, punch like well just say we never seen a 2 yr old punch like him. He can Arm bar, mount but watch out he throws punches from the mount. He is amazing.

YoungGunsMMA:
What is your favorite subject in school? Why?
Kaimana: SCIENCE is my favorite I like to study things.

YoungGunsMMA:
B.J Penn vs. Sean Sherk....Who wins and why?
Kaimana:
BJ PENN –His game is complete. He could end the fight however he wants. They only shot that sherk has is BJ not being in shape because sherk can go all day.

YoungGunsMMA: Anything big coming up for Kaimana?
Kaimana:
I will be doing a Jiu-jitsu Tournament on Nov 3. http://www.unitedbjj.com/html/tournaments.html

YoungGunsMMA:
Is there any shout outs you would like to give (Gym, Coaches, Parents, Friends, sponsors)?
Kaimana: I would like to thank a bunch of people that have helped me in my short career. First the lord Jesus Christ who has given me some talent to work with. My dad who I love more then anything!! He does it all for me, he shows me the path. My mom for her support. And trying to do Jiu-jitsu with me. My TKD teachers Talium TKD in Irvine ca, Master So- Master Lee, Instructor Faheem. They have taught me so much, just remember I’m only 7 don’t need to go so hard! JACK (Hehe) they are in 7th grade and the MMA world will know who they are in the future. www.nolimitsmma.com. And the future of our WORLD YoungGunsmma.com To all Young Guns Train Hard. I respect all of you. Hey Kaimana!

That was an awesome article. I learned a lot about you and your family! You are an inspiration to me and I have so much respect for your fighting spirit and love of MMA. You are lucky to have such a dedicated father and world-class instructors, but you certainly have made the most of that good fortune! I look forward to watching your progress and hope to train with you one day!

Keep up the good work!

Your friend,
Kai

This was a very great article. I wish the best for this young man. He sounds really dedicated to his training. It seems to be tough, but fun. I would like to hear from his trainers. How is he as a student? Is he a noraml 7 year old, or does he really pay attention to details and listen. This boy could be dangerous when he matures into his body. Let's hear from a one of his trainers. How is he?

Bright Future Good Luck!!!!!!

I first saw Kaimana on youtube and I was really impressed. I emailed his dad and found out he was cousins with the owner of our gym (Fisticuffs Gym in Vancouver). His skill level is increasing by the minute. Kaimana and Brian keep training hard! If any one else knows of any kids or teens who train and compete with heart and soul, let me know in the forum. Martial arts seems to be the happening thing, but I'd like to interview some boxers and wrestlers! Aloha, Aaron P.s The forum is now open!

Impressive dedication, Kaimana. I train a 7 and an eight year old for 2 hrs a day six days a week. Somedays one might want to skip out or drag their feet because they think what's one day? Or balk at sparring with bigger fighters because it's not fair. They should read your interview. Awesome drive!
