focus areas for a kickboxer's ground game? 9 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
A very young muay thai boxer learning mma wants to learn his first "get out of jail free card" moves to get back on his feet where he's more comfotable, He tends to jump to full guard for about every situation, which he occasionally does get his armbar or something else, but often gets lost against a better trained grappler. He cant afford to miss anyfights until he's well versed in wrestling, but some basic pointers might be better than nothing. It would be great to attend a mma or jui jitsu school, but there aren't any around, most tae kwon do or karate places refuse to train him for a MMA bout and i doubt these disciplines would help his ground game at all anyway. So any suggestions on how to get a striker to his feet quickly?

Where are you folks located? I could possibly help find a source for him to train. Is there a bout already set up?
Bjpenn.com offers some of the best tutorials around. He covers everything from basics to the more advanced things. It's a great resource to have. I do recomend watching tapes of old fights. If he has a training partner to practice on that's perfect. My 10 year old watches fights from grapplers quest, Pride, UFC and what ever he can get his hands on. BJJ books are solid to learn from too. The Gracies have a series of books out on everything from MMA to basic gaurd drills. Just visit your local Barnes and Nobles or any good book store. If there is no one who's willing to train him, start self learning. I'll try to get some tutorials up on how to get back up to your feet from gaurd. Great question. Again let me know where you folks are from and I'll help find some resources. Aaron

just turned 8 yrs old 70 lbs; all muscle and a talented striker, but lacks the finished wrestler technique. He had his first fight in front about 800 people and lost by submission in about 27 sec. I think he panicked due to how fast got picked and dropped and suddenly it was a ground war.(massacre) He was devestasted by this and has hit the sparring, weights ,and cardio religiously, and cut out video games and tv on his own! We have gotten him some pointers from a state champ making wrestling coach since the last post but any MMA advise or experience would be great!, It's hard to get in the cage again without confidence in your ground skills, so we'll keep working and learning.
